Last Exile: Fam, the Silver Wing – 07

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Last Exile: Fam, the Silver Wing - 07Empress Augusta delivers a speech regarding the recent Ades purges and why they were needed, but upon delivering them, she cries to General Vasant, telling Vasant that the purges were her fault for not being more like her mother since her job as empress is to protect all the people. Vasant rejects this notion and comforts Augusta.  Later, several of Vasant’s subordinates from her home country of Chaos approach her, worried about the recent purges. Vasant assures them that Augusta knows the value of their people and as such, there will be no purges of the peoples of Chaos.  They are relieved to hear this.

Last Exile: Fam, the Silver Wing - 07Meanwhile, even though Fam has only one more warship on her contract with Tatiana, news that Ades are transporting eight warships formerly belonging to now dead nobles from the purge is something that Fam cannot resist and Millia agrees. Gisey is concerned and does research in Silvius‘s library as Millia returns a book to Titania of things Titania wanted her to learn. Millia sees Gisey’s look of worry and asks for Gisey’s strength this one last time, which Gisey agrees to reluctantly as Fam’s navigator. However, Gisey is missing her family and friends.

Last Exile: Fam, the Silver Wing - 07On the flight to capture the eight Ades warships, Fam and Gisey are surprised when a large Sky Pirate fleet, led by her father Atamora, are after the same prize. Unfortunately, the contest to see who can capture these ships is cut short as the Ades Third Fleet, led by General Ōrang, have dropped out of the sky above them, trapping the Sky Pirates in the valley. The Third Fleet opens fire, causing massive devastation among the Sky Pirates as Ades reveals new weaponry on their warships. All seems hopeless until Fam notices how some Grand Birds were disturbed and escaped through the turbulence in the sky above the clouded valley.

Last Exile: Fam, the Silver Wing - 07Gisey pulls herself together to signal the plan to the others as Ōrang plans his final assault. This causes a massive chunk of ice to fall into the water in the valley, changing the air pressure enough for the Sky Pirates to escape while at the same time, disturbing enough Grand Birds to prevent the Third Fleet from following. Though Gisey wants to return to her family, she stays with Fam and sends the signal to her father about completing the contract. Returning to the Silvius, Fam and Gisey are about to land when the Ades First Fleet, let by General Sadri, demands that Princess Millia be turned over to them or else.

Thoughts/Review:

So, the negative elements shown with Gisey last episode continue to be here this time to an even larger degree. Well, its not surprising that she misses her family and fellow Sky Pirates back home. Gisey has always seemed the type who’d rather be a homemaker, mother, and housewife rather than an adventurous navigator for a daredevil pilot.  Until now, it hasn’t been a problem as they did a mission and came home. Now, she’s away from home and is depressed.

Last Exile: Fam, the Silver Wing - 07

Still, she and Fam make a good team. Fam has the drive to get Gisey to do the things she wouldn’t normally do (despite her skills) and Gisey is a limiting factor of Fam going too overboard.

Last Exile: Fam, the Silver Wing - 07

Which reminds me…I had no problem seeing how the Third Fleet sprung the trap on the Sky Pirates, but I’m not buying that the First Fleet could track a tiny Vespa craft AND stay hidden in the clouds and otherwise undetected. Was some sort of tracking device placed on Fam’s Vespa?

Last Exile: Fam, the Silver Wing - 07

I found it very much believable that Augusta would cry for the people that were killed. I was surprised to learn that Vasant is not a natural born Ades citizen though, making her high rank and basically being adoptive mother to Augusta even more surprising. I smell Vasant eventually turning on the others with the support of Augusta.

Last Exile: Fam, the Silver Wing - 07

Anyway, a really good episode and since I am behind, I’m glad I can go right into episode 8 and see how Silvius handles the First Fleet situation.

Come on ANB, how does Seina Yamada always find pirate ships? The story require there be a battle between Salvius abd the enemy, so there is a battle.

Frankly I would be careful about trying to find logical reasons for anime plot lines, you might kill a kitten-girl. (old AFC joke)

Ha! The GXP storyline established from the start that Seina had severe bad luck and that bad things just sought him out. Since pirates are certainly bad things, they ended up seeking him out, even if they didn’t know why.

Oh Nerf, you miss the one serious point of that whole series (Ya, I can’t believe the Kajishima-sensei did had a serious point either.) That Seina’s luck was good or bad according to your view point. Most people thought Seina had bad luck, but Seto look it as good luck. Serio had the ‘good luck fleet’ yet that did not prevent him from losing every thing. Put in other words, luck is not good or bad, it just fate.

Be that as it may, Seina’s luck was established as a plot element in the first episode and became something Seto could exploit for her own purposes. (NYAH!HA!HA!HA! ^_~) There was nothing established to really explain how such a large fleet could sneak-follow a Vespa. You are right in that we aren’t supposed to question it, but the question popped into my head the moment the fleet appeared.

It’s possible that in addition to apparently getting new weapons, Ades also had new tech installed to track things from great distances.
